Hairdressers and salons

You take care of people. Make room for the planet too.

Know your salon's consumption, reduce emissions where possible, and support projects to offset, documenting the contribution.

Bright interior of a salon with seating and workstations

The salon in operation

From the workstation to the washing area.

The bill combines many uses together. The calculator starts from there and avoids adding up individual appliances again.

Hairdryers, straighteners and workstations

Their consumption is already part of the electricity bill: it is not added a second time.

Hot water and washing area

If the water heater is electric, the energy is in the electricity bill; if it is gas-powered, it falls under the declared source.

Laundry and drying

Washing machine and dryer affect consumption through the energy actually billed.

Lighting and air conditioning

Lighting and comfort of the salon are included in the annual total, without estimates per individual appliance.

Hairdresser drying a client's hair

Readable data starts with the right period.

Twelve full months allow you to read seasonality, air conditioning and the real pace of appointments.

From data to action

Understand, reduce, then offset.

  1. 01

    Data

Collect twelve months of bills and separate the energy sources actually used.

  2. 02

    Estimate

Calculate the CO₂ of consumption with stated factors, units, year and geography.

  3. 03

    Reduction

Review appliances, hours, maintenance, water temperature and washing organisation.

  4. 04

    Documented contribution

The remaining emissions can be complemented by documented projects and retirements, verifiable over time.

Offsetting complements emission reduction. The calculator's result does not prove that a contribution or retirement took place.

Salon calculator

Estimate of the salon's energy consumption emissions.

Enter your bills' annual data. Empty fields remain excluded and no standard consumption is attributed to a service.

Enter the annual consumption from your bills. Leave a source blank if it is not used. Natural gas must be entered only once: either in cubic metres or in kWh, not both.

It is only used to split the energy share; it does not estimate the footprint of a haircut, blow-dry or treatment.

Transparent method

How we calculate emissions

For each source we apply annual consumption × kg CO₂ factor per unit. We only sum results expressed in the same CO₂ indicator. We do not arbitrarily convert m³ into kWh and do not include WTT or life cycle.

Included

Purchased electricity and on-site combustion of the stated sources over twelve months, including the energy for hot water already billed.

Excluded

Products and cosmetics, packaging, water, waste, refrigerants, transport, equipment and life cycle.

Primary sources, rows and limits

Electricity: final Italian national consumption factor for 2024 from ISPRA, 192.6 g CO₂/kWh, i.e. 0.1926 kg CO₂/kWh. Natural gas and LPG: only the Scope 1 CO₂ component from DESNZ 2026 used as a UK proxy, respectively 2.02231 kg/m³, 0.18194 kg/kWh GCV and 1.55491 kg/l. No WTT and no summing across different boundaries.

Other aspects to consider

Outside the calculation, not outside the reasoning.

Products and cosmetics

Dyes, shampoos and treatments have an impact that requires supply-chain data: it is not included in the estimate.

Packaging and waste

Bottles, cartons and disposal must be considered separately, with the salon's own specific information.

Water and drainage

The volume of water is not converted into emissions: only the energy consumption to heat it counts here.

Practical tips, not prescriptions

  • Turn off hairdryers, straighteners and workstation lights during idle time, without chasing preset numerical targets.
  • Schedule towel washes at full load, when the salon's organisation allows it.
  • Periodically check filters, seals and hot water temperature with whoever handles maintenance.
  • Note consumption month by month: comparing periods is more useful than a generic percentage.

From the till to people

A gesture at the till, a contribution that keeps going.

In the agreed journey, customers can choose to take part; the till prints a code on the receipt to redeem online. Compatibility and configuration must be checked for each management system.

Badge and documentation

Communicate only what actually happened.

Badges, certificates and project references are linked to the actual journey and its documentation. The energy estimate alone does not certify the salon.

The supported project, the period and any retirement must remain verifiable and separate from the preliminary calculation.
